  1. Sounds delicious. Thanks for sharing!

    • I have made this several times. Sometimes in place of the sour cream I use Tex Mex dip (from Kroger) or put taco seasoning in with my sour cream. It gives it a little more flavor. Also there is a Southwest Ranch Dip made by Pace that is really good to add to sour cream or use in place of it as well. Just some ideas.

      Very good. Thanks!

  2. This looks absolutely scrumptious! Yes please to all of your opening ingredients! My kids are going to love this. Thanks for linking up to Hunk of Meat Monday!

  3. Oooh, yummy! You’ve sparked my memory of a dish that I have had with chicken and doritos, I’m going to have to make that one again soon.
Thanks for this recipe, looks delicious and yes, anything with doritos is at the top of the list with kids:)

  4. Hi Amy,
This is a delicious casserole. Thank you for sharing and have a great week!

  5. Well now, this is something I wouldn’t have any trouble getting the teens to eat.

  9. So good, just got done having this for supper and the whole family loved it!

  10. Have this in the oven now… hope it tastes as great as it looks.. can’t wait!

  11. Anonymous says:

oh yummo! Can’t wait to make this!

  12. I made this last night for dinner… oh my goodness …. was it ever GOOD. Thanks you for sharing.

  13. Brilliant. My family loves this

  14. I think I’ll make this tonight. I don’t have any tomato sauce but do have some spaghetti sauce. That would work, wouldn’t it?

  15. @ A Little Bit – I think you would be okay!

  16. I made this two nights ago for myself, my husband, and our four year old son. Not a bite was left! Made it exactly as the recipe stated and it turned out FANTASTIC! Will definitely add this to our rotation!

  17. Anonymous says:

can you use chicken instead of hamburger meat?

  18. not a fan of this i think its the chips that make it not taste as good as it could have. i’d leave those out next time. i also added taco seasoning, lime fresh squeezed into the chicken, and bell peppers, onions tomatos as well which added a little veggies and healthy stuff to the recipe, just wish i left the chips off.

    • Anonymous says:

How about using different chips, i.e., original flavored or ranch flavored with chicken and leave out taco seasoning …. I also think taco flavored chips r very strong flavored…

    • Anonymous says:

I cook it without the chips and everyone adds the crushed chips once the get the toco bake on their plates. YUM!

    • I agree about the chips. They are good but not baked the entire time. they ended up tasting burned. I did it the second time but added the chips for just the last 10 minutes

    • Anonymous says:

Add regular Fritos chips maybe..I am gonna try a half and half as I don’t care for Doritos but my son loves them.

  19. I made this for lunch and it was YUMMO!!! I didn’t have crescent rolls so I used the Pillsbury pizza crust and added salsa to the taco meat for an extra kick. It was FABULOUS!!

  20. This looks amazing. I can’t wait to make it for the fam. Thanks for sharing.

  21. I have this in the oven now. I only made ONE change…. I sprinkled chili powder and cumin on top of the crescent rolls prior to adding the toppings. I’m making this for my son who doesn’t like REALLY spicy stuff. I would have used a can of Rotel chopped tomatoes w/green chilies if I were making for just the adults :)

  22. My family loved it!!! Tx:)

  23. Do you think the sour cream could be replaced with cream cheese? I am not a fan of sour cream at all, and don’t really like cream cheese, but can tolerate that more than sour cream. This looks so delicous, I want to try it out!

  24. I used Turkey and my family loved it

  25. This is what is wrong with America.

    • Amen sister!!!!!!!!!

    • whats wrong with America? We like to experiment?

    • Anonymous says:

If you don’t like it then don’t eat it! Don’t put others down for trying it or liking it! You are what’s wrong with America. So judgemental

    • Anonymous says:

What is wrong with YOU?? There’s nothing wrong with enjoying and appreciating all kinds of food, classy or trashy, so long as you do it in moderation. Judgmental much? Sometimes you need some good salty, greasy food.

    • What is wrong with the world is bullies on the internet that do not disclose their names and who teach their children to be just like them.

    • Ha, I was kind of thinking the same thing. “No wonder Americans smuggle with obesity and weightless” is what crossed my mind.

Maybe instead if topping with chips, top it with romaine lettuce after it cools; substitute greek yogurt for the sour cream; use fat free cheddar instead if full fat; and add some real, wholesome veggies including a layer of black beans to make this a much healthier dinner choice.

    • Geesh! Autocorrect!

      **Smuggle = struggle
      **Weightless = Weightloss
      **If = Of

    • Anonymous says:

This was my thought as well. Of course the kids like it, there is almost no nutritional value in it, it is a meal purely make for the taste. If we gave kids everything they wanted we would be harming more than helping. However, this dish has the potential to be healthier with a few substitutes. And it could be a good way to hide veggies for the veggie haters, making it even better.

  26. Very yummy, even though I did have a problem with my crescent roll crust being under baked. Suggestions?

  27. Apparently I’m the only one who did not like this. So salty and glopy, only thing I want to eat is a huge salad, I would never feed this to my kids!!!! Serves me right for thinking this could be good. My poor husband had to eat this too, he hated it more than I did!

    • Anonymous says:

I found it to salty and glopy too. I think without the chips it would make a great dip! It certainly was not a tasty, healthy well-balanced meal. I just felyt like so much was lacking.

    • Anonymous says:

Were you really expecting this to be healthy? It’s a splurge… not a healthy well balanced meal. I would never make this expecting it to be healthy. I would make it to have a yummy “treat” for dinner.

    • You saw what the ingredients were before you made it. You should have known what to expect. No, it isn’t something you’d make every night. My family thought it was delicious.

    • Anonymous says:

You’d be mad if someone hung you with a dirty rope. Suck it up princess. You knew it wouldn’t be healthy so please don’t make comments like that.

    • Anonymous says:

Ummm…if the only thing you want to eat is a huge salad, then why did you make this in the first place?? Also, please define “glopy” for me. It is a word that I am unfamiliar with…

  28. OMG – soooooooooooo easy and soooooooooo good!!! I am really glad my daughter shared this with me. I did change it a lttle: I added onions to my meat; I used Rotel Tomatoes and I used 2 cups of sharp chedder cheese instead of 1 cup. Thanks for sharing!!

  29. This was good. Next time I am going to leave out the sour cream and use it as a topping.

  30. Anonymous says:

I just pulled it out of the oven and my crescent rolls were still doughy. I put it in a 9×13 glass baking dish, could that be a reason?? I put it back in to continue baking…

  31. Anonymous says:

I have made this twice and it is awesome! I made it for company last night and got rave reviews! In fact, they made it for lunch today and are expecting no leftovers!

  32. Anonymous says:

Made this tonite for company w picky kids….omg!!! They loved it no leftovers !!!

  33. Anonymous says:

I don’t like tomatoes , or tomatoe paste. could I just leave that out? Or is it important?

  34. Anonymous says:

Thought this would be good, but it didn’t really thrill us.

  35. Anonymous says:

Looks delicious I’m. gonna try this

  36. I make a similar recipe but leave out the tomatoes and tomato paste. I also add an extra layer of chips directly on top of the crescent roll dough which make keep it from getting soggy. Also, I use tortilla chips because the ingredients in Doritos leave something to be desired. We add taco sauce and diced tomatoes at the table after it is baked.

Found this recipe on Pinterest. I must say it is the new family favorite. Made this last night and it was a huge hit. Thanks for this tastey easy meal.

  38. Anonymous says:

Got to try this, thanks for the idea! Do you have any suggestions for using a metal dish?

  39. Anonymous says:

Wow chill out people we like to eat and enjoy food!!! Not everything has to be healthy, live life a little!!! Delishhh

  40. Just wondering what to make for dinner tonight and I come across this on pinterest!!! Looks Lush!!! Not sure if I can get crescent roll dough here in Bonny Scotland but I’m sure I’ll manage to be creative!!!
As for some of the comments here, it’s fair enough if you don’t like it but there’s no need to be rude to these lovely ladies who shared it. Manners cost nothing you know.

    • I was thinking the same thing.

WOW, found this on Pintrest and made it last night. One of a few recipies my family of five can all eat and agree on! Everyone loved it! I left our the tomatoes and sour cream (did theat on the side) and served this with a nice side salad. Simple easy dinner for a busy family. Love this site too!

  42. Anonymous says:

I Tried this out last night..it was very good but if you don’t like things too spicy get a taco bell taco seasoning packet.. i used old el paso and it came out too spicy for me, other than that it was very good!

  43. Anonymous says:

I just made it for my family they love it, I added some black beans and corn to the meat mix, it was fabulous and a good way to sneak in some veggies!

  44. Can’t wait to try this! Yum! 😀

  45. I made the recipe exactly as written, except in a 10 x 10 dish. It was delicious and easy. My family liked it.

  46. Do you think this could be done in a crock pot?? I really want to make this, but, my oven has gone out :(

  47. Anonymous says:

Made this tonite. Was delicious and will definately make again!

  48. I found this on Pinterest today and made it tonight. It was DELICIOUS! My husband said it easily within his top 5 favorite recipes. I served it with refried beans and spanish rice…oops nothing super healthy 😉 Forgive me, America! Will definitely be making again. Thanks!

There are ways to make this healthier and maintain the general idea of the recipe. Replace the beef with turkey; add beans and decrease the amount of meat; use a lower fat crust instead of the Crescent Rolls; add more vegetables; use plain tortilla chips.

This is a great recipe because it’s flexible and creative!

  50. i totally grew up on this dish – minus the tomatoes. i normally use ground turkey and often add canned corn. i like to make this for my friends because it’s so ridiculous when i explain it to them, but they can never deny its yumminess!
